Steve Jones on Nerdist

29 August 2012 - 03:59 PM

So the most recent episode of Chris Hardwick's Nerdist podcast is with Steve Jones of Sex Pistols fame.
They talk about his current work at the K-ROQ radio station in Los Angeles, and discuss how the old way of distributing and "charting" music is dead and gone, replaced by the new media way of recent years.

Jonah Ray, one of the co-hosts, states that with Green Day's recent single, I believe referring to the K-ROQ station, the station would often play Green Day's older music a lot more than the new single. It's still played, sure, but the older stuff is, in a way, made a priority..

Anyway, interesting listen! It's on nerdist.com!

Evermore are back! :D

28 August 2012 - 04:06 AM

Just got this newsletter from Evermore via email:

Our big news is that its announced that on October 12, 2012 Evermore will release the fourth studio album titled "Follow The Sun".

As many of you would know it arrives after a three year hiatus from the local scene, that took the band on a world tour with Pink and then traverse the globe a second time just as three brothers to start the album writing process. They built a full service studio on their farm property outside of Melbourne, and they recorded, wrote and produced a list of great music projects in that period. Amongst them was the new album for Evermore that has all the songs and moments to be the finest album of their career.

"Follow The Sun" was written and performed by the three Hume brothers and produced and mixed entirely by eldest brother Jon. The first single lifted from the album will be the title track "Follow The Sun" which is out now through iTunes. It is a triumphant march of a song, that in true Evermore style evokes a sense of grandeur, youthful energy, indomitable spirit and a constant yearning for human connection. It is best listened to in large groups and at maximum volume. There is something kinetic about the brother’s Hume, and their songs reflect just that, heart-stopping velocity captured in a freeze frame.

The new video "Follow The Sun" is up for Channel V Ripe Clip contention right now which means if you like the video we would love it if you could click "like" on the Channel V Facebook page and cast a vote for Evermore. Voting lines are only open on this competition for a day. And please feel free to spread the love through your own social media pages.

To mark the bands return Evermore are "premiering" the new material at a national series of shows in classic music rooms to get up close and personal again with their audience.

Awesome. So. Fucking. Awesome! I loved the third album, I was even the WA street team leader for several months before passing it on to someone else due to university studies.. Scored free tickets to a lot of their gigs too!

See? Even more musical artists who took an extended hiatus and are returning recently. 2012 is a big year, it seems.. Also further proves my point that *artists are allowed to take long breaks*. They're not machines. Just because they make music, doesn't mean they need to constantly do it and never stop for a while.. I may or may not be referring to the whole hiatus thing with Delta.. ;)

Sony may be learning from these guys..

I couldn't help but laugh even more at this sketch, after Sony's recent marketing strategies..

Good friends of mine and Canadian internet sketch comedy troupe (and other webseries producers), LoadingReadyRun, present how things are sold to you, the consumer.

They've been around since before YouTube as well, weekly sketches since, like.. 2003?

Can of Worms

21 August 2012 - 12:45 AM

So.. I watched this show last year, after being a major fan of ABC1's Hungry Beast (same team working on it!) I was even in one of their promos for their third and final season! I never liked Ian "Dicko" Dickson. Ever. I don't know why, just his overall being. Him, and Ten's incessant need to over-sensationalize every single thing on their channel and their desperation for controversy. I was really disappointed for the HB behind-the-scenes team.. Hungry Beast was so.. Educated, intellectual and witty. This.. Wasn't that.

I was therefore sceptical about the series return, until I read that Dicko and Meshel Laurie were being replaced by Chrissie Swan and Dan Ilic (who in the first series, was more of a field reporter and barely seen on screen).. It.. Gave me a little more faith in Channel Ten. Having The Shire on after it doesn't help them though..

Anyway, Chrissie's pretty awesome/funny, I always liked Dan's Hungry Beast segments.. Fitzy, Kate and Megan were really good first guests!

I'd be curious if Can of Worms would have Delta on as a guest.. Even though she's signed pretty tightly with Nine? Radio hosts are fairly free to do as they please, hence why Nova's Fitzy and Kate were understandable.. Megan's on Foxtel, so that's a different story as well.

Also, after watching Nine's Big Brother Nominations right before it, it was a nice night for Big Brother fans! Chrissie was on BB2 and Ryan was on BB3! Reunion~!

Gamers?

17 August 2012 - 01:03 AM

I'm not sure how likely this is, but does anyone else here play any video games and such? No matter what, PC games (Steam, etc), Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, handhelds (DS, 3DS, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, smartphones)? Or even any old/retro games?

Might be fun to have some gaming get-togethers or something!

These days, I'm gradually getting through the Assassin's Creed series (so good..), Deus Ex: Human Revolution (SO good), Final Fantasy XIII-2 (and sometimes XI or XIV Online), picking up a Nintendo 3DS XL (bigger no-glasses 3D screen~) for Kingdom Hearts 3D, Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy (a music rhythm game featuring a ton of music compositions from the entire Final Fantasy series! I don't just like singy music, I likes my game themes too!) and New Super Mario Bros. 2..

Anything you're finding fun?

Side Note: Adam Hoek from Team Delta on The Voice? Totally added me on the Steam client. We have similar games! :D I think Adam said there's a few other Voice contestants who play games too :D That was awesome.
