The Amazing Race, the Emmy-award winning reality travel competition series, is back for another season in 2012. The 20th season features eleven teams of two, each with a pre-existing relationship, in a race around the world.
This season spans 40,000 miles (64,000 km) in twenty-two cities and five continents, with first-time visits to Paraguay and Azerbaijan. Visits to Argentina, Tanzania, Italy, and Germany are also confirmed for this season.
The cast includes former Big Brother US contestants Brendon Villegas and Rachel Reilly as well as Major League Soccer player Andrew Weber and professional golfer Maiya Tanaka who previously appeared on the Golf Channel's reality competition The Big Break. It also includes a pair of federal agents, married clowns, United States Border Patrol agents, and dating divorcees.
Like the previous season, Season 20 of TAR will be fasttracked by Channel Seven and shown at 9.30pm Wednesdays from February 22, two days after the US broadcast. The bad news is that, since the series will be shown on the main channel, it will not be broadcast in HD (Season 18 was broadcast on Seven's HD channel 7mate).

This is a first - a team coming so close to the pitstop but did not see Phil or the crew, and when they later found out, it was too late, they got eliminated.

When I saw a preview for the finale (which aired on Seven last week) I could not believe it: a team reaches the finish line in Hawaii first, only to be told by Phil that the race is not over. I downloaded the episode a week ago and watched it, and it was Rachel and Dave which somehow missed the roadblock and went straight to the dock where they paddled surf to the finish line at Secret Island. Art and JJ were already at the roadblock, but Art failed miserably at the first task (land sledding down the hill without falling over) and the guys were eventually caught up by Rachel and Dave, who became the first team in Amazing Race history to win 8 legs in a single season.
Brendon and Rachel briefly led after the ice shaving roadblock task, but they misread the clue and went to a sports stadium instead of a nearby helipad for a helicopter ride, losing valuable time.
Overall, another great finish to the season. Brendon and Rachel, and Vanessa and Ralph spent a lot of time arguing against one another, which I think affected their performances. Bopper hurt his leg while in Africa and Mark struggled in the Indian heat, so well done to them for persisting until their elimination.
