The AFL grand final rematch between Collingwood and Geelong finally gave Seven its first substantial win on a Friday night, and Seven takes the lead for the week as the result. But alarmingly for Seven is its 6pm Melbourne bulletin which lost to Nine News every night so far this week, by around 100,000 viewers on some nights.
The NRL match between the Tigers and the Warriors did well for Nine, as did the season finale of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries for the ABC.
Both MC and The Living Room fell from last week, against live AFL and NRL.

Seven won the night largely thanks to the AFL "Dreamtime at the G" match between Essendon and Richmond. New Tricks continued to its ratings surge, passing the 1.2 million mark even though it was outrated by Seven News last night.

Seven won its eighth rating week of 2012, ending Nine's four-week winning streak. A number of factors contributed to Seven's win: excellent ratings for the AFL on Friday and Saturday, as well as the premiere of Once Upon a Time; low figures for the season finale of Celebrity Apprentice, and new episodes of The Mentalist and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
Nine won key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 thanks to another bumper figure for The Block (the week's most-watched program) and The Block.
Seven won every night of the week except Monday which fell to Nine. Seven was first in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth while Nine won Sydney and Brisbane. ABC defeated Ten on Saturday night.

Seven won the night largely thanks to the premiere of season 2 of Downton Abbey. The surprise British hit drama of 2011 attracted 1.5 million, slightly on season 1 finale last year (1.589 million).
down 300,000 viewers on last year’s premiere of 1.807m.
Could it have been due to Seven holding the series for too long (it has already aired in the UK, the US and New Zealand, and the DVD is widely available)?
The costume drama ranked third – behind Nine's The Block, which won the night with a big surge from last week, and Seven News.
In the demographics, The Block won in both the 18-49 and 25-54 markets with MasterChef in second. But the results were reversed for the 16-39 market. Downton Abbey placed 5th in 16-39 and 18-49 and 6th in 25-54 demos.
Most shows went up on last week, including The Block, MC, DWTS, Modern Family, New Girl, The Mentalist and Touch. But Castle took a big hit due to its late start caused by Downton Abbey.

The Voice fell below the 2 million mark for the first time to a new series low (shedding a massive 260,000 viewers), finally reflecting the declining ratings trend as demonstrated by the US and UK versions, but it is still enough to help Nine winning the night. Tricky Business (which followed The Voice) also suffered a big drop from last week's premiere, and Nine was tricky (no pun intended) in its press release declaring the episode peaked at 1.91 million viewers knowing the show started late.
A two-week break did not harm Revenge, it posted an impressive figure against The Voice. Deal or No Deal had a rare big win over Hot Seat nationally, but Nine News still beat Seven News in Melbourne, by only 27,000 viewers. Border Security and The Force rated better than Highway Patrol in the same timeslot two weeks ago, Body of Proof 's second season premiere did OK.
Apart from The Project and MC, it was another disastrous night for Ten.

Nine had a good night, dominating from 5.30pm to 9pm with Hot Seat, Nine News, ACA, The Block and The Big Bang Theory's season finale all winning their timeslots (TBBT's 8pm repeat came third in its timeslot). However, low figures for Survivor: One World cost Nine the night.
Seven won the night largely due to PTTR (which went up from last week but still lost to TBBT) and good figures from double episodes of Missing, which was cancelled in the US last week. Once Upon a Time suffered a big drop from last week's premiere, losing nearly 200,000 viewers.
Bikie Wars also took a big fall from last week's premiere. It was partly compensated by a new episode of Modern Family and MasterChef, both of which attracted 1.03 million viewers. Ten News posted its highest figure this year.

Last night's rugby league State of Origin from Melbourne set a new audience record for the series opener since OzTAM ratings began in 2001. The match, in which Queensland defeated New South Wales 18-10 after a controversial try by Greg Inglis, attracted a massive 2.51 million, surpassing the previous record of 2.455 million viewers set in 2010. The match gave Nine a huge win and an unassailable win for the week.
In regional areas, an average of 1.442 million viewers watched the match, peaking at 1.674 million, making it the biggest regional audience to watch a State of Origin match since the inception of the OzTAM ratings.
In Sydney, 1.153 million viewers watched the clash on Nine, with a peak of 1.257 million. Sydney saw a huge free-to-air audience share last night with Total People (51.9%), 25-54s (53.6%), 18-49s (57.4%) and 16-39s (58.6%) switching on to Nine.
In Brisbane, an audience of 908,000 watched their home team draw first blood in the 2012 series, making it the highest rating State of Origin match for Brisbane under OzTAM, with a peak of 982,000. Channel Nine in Brisbane had a massive FTA share last night with Total People (57.4%), 25-54s (60.0%), 18-49s (63.2%) and 16-39s (64.1%).
The match was the most watched program of the night in Sydney and Brisbane across Total People and all key demographics: 25-54s, 18-49s and 16-39s. It also won its timeslot in Melbourne.
The total audience (combining mainland capitals and regional areas) was 3.957 million. Game 1 reached 4.399 million viewers within the 5 City Metro markets and 2.202 million in regional areas.
Such was SOO's dominance that it took the night's top three spots: the match itself, the post-match and the pre-match.
Seven's decision to split the screening of AGT did not really work. When the program aired in Adelaide and Perth, its ratings actually fell from last week. In Melbourne AGT also lost to SOO.
MasterChef and Offspring held up well against SOO but the ABC took a mighty hit.

Seven edged out Nine to claim the night in combined shares. Seven won quite comfortably in primary channels but a 5.7% share from GO! Pushed Nine to within 0.2% of Seven in combined shares.
Shaun Micallef's new ABC program, Mad as Hell, had a modest debut and attracted the similar number of viewers as Qi in previous Friday nights.
SBS attracted a massive 7.7% share in primary channels thanks to its Eurovision coverage.

Nine won the week thanks to huge audiences for The Voice (despite it falling below the 2 million mark for the first time) and the opening game of this year's rugby league State of Origin series. It is the second time in three weeks that Nine claimed the week even though it only won two nights.
Nine won key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54. It also won Sydney and Brisbane while Seven was victorious in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
Seven won Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Nine took Monday and Wednesday. ABC defeated Ten on Friday and Saturday.

Seven won the night even though both DWTS and Downton Abbey went down from last week (Downton posting a new series low).
Nine's line-up was relatively unchanged from last week with The Block continued leading the way.
SBS has another successful year covering the Eurovision Song Contest. The final from Azerbaijan averaged 531,000 viewers over 3.5 hours, higher than last year. The event gave SBSONE a massive 9.4% share and a combined share of 10.1% for the night.
MC was Ten's top show of the night but Modern Family lost 250,000 viewers from its previous first-run episode on Tuesday.

Nine won Monday again thanks to The Voice and The Block, but Tricky Business suffered a big drop in ratings from last week. The Voice went up slightly on last week but was still below the 2 million mark.
Revenge, which went head-to-head against The Voice, saw its audience going up by more than 110,000 on last week (and beating The Voice in Adelaide), demonstrating why the drama is one of the hits of 2012. The Force and Body of Proof did well and DOND had a big win over Hot Seat.
Ten continued its struggle on Mondays with MC the only program to attracting more than 1 million viewers.
ABC panel discussion program Q&A, which last night featured an all-star line-up including Barry Humphries, Miriam Margolyes and Jacki Weaver, posted one of its highest ratings for 2012.

Seven won the night thanks to solid figures for AGT and the premiere of season 2 of The Amazing Race Australia. The ratings for TARA were quite good given the program's 9pm start, but they were well down from last year's premiere which attracted 1.258 million viewers on a Monday night.
The Block was the night's most-watched program for the second night in a row, but low figures from The Mentalist and RPA meant Nine coming second.
MasterChef held up well against The Block and AGT, and Offspring made a big surge in ratings. On Eleven, the season finale of The Simpsons featuring Lady Gaga did well.

Seven had a good win last night thanks to the 6pm news (winning everywhere except Melbourne) and the AFL, mainly Melbourne's upset win over second-placed Essendon.

Despite Nine News, The Block and 60 Minutes all winning their timeslots (The Block reaching 1.8 million), Nine was pipped by Seven in primary channels and well beaten by Seven in combined channels. 60 Minutes added more than 200,000 viewers from last Sunday as people tuned in for Karl Stefanovic's interview of Delta Goodrem. However, 60 Minutes lost to MasterChef in younger demographics.
For Seven, DWTS slipped a bit from last week but Downton Abbey went up.
MC continued to increase its audience for the Sunday episode but Modern Family, New Girl and Touch struggled.
