The premiere of the Australian version of The Voice, plus the TV Week Logie Awards, helped Nine to a huge win last night as the ratings season resumes.
The singing sensation, based on the format The Voice of Holland, had a stunning debut last night and was easily the number one program across all demographics. It peaked at 2.93 million in five major cities and 4.1 million if regional audiences are added. The addition of The Voice pushed up Nine's primary share and overall share to 37.2% and 42% respectively, against 28.2% and 35% when the Logies were shown on May 1 last year.
The audience of 2.177 million for The Voice's premiere makes it the third-most watched show on Australian TV so far this year, behind My Kitchen Rules: winner announced (2.81 million) and MKR finale (2.186 million).
The Logie Awards were overshadowed by The Voice but the event itself did well too. It peaked at 2.76 million when One Direction was performing at the start of the coverage. The audience was higher than last year's 1.323 million (the number included red carpet arrivals), but it could have been even higher had the awards went way overtime (it did not finish until 12.20am today).
With The Block and Celebrity Apprentice still to come, Nine could win its first ratings week since September 2010.
The Voice and the Logies trounced the opposition. Even the once-reliable Dancing with the Stars took a battering, the lowest season premiere audience in the show's 9 year history in Australia. Ten's line-up also took a big hit, even the premiere of Avatar (the highest grossing movie of all time) was no match for the Logies. The only good news was that it bettered DWTS in younger demos.

The Voice made a big surge last night, hitting the 2.5 million mark and in the process thrashing two of Seven's biggest drawcards this year: Australia's Got Talent and Revenge. The episode peaked at 3.1 million, was the top program in all major demographics, and is now the second-most watched program on Australian TV this year behind My Kitchen Rules: winner announced (2.812 million). No other reality competition program has enjoyed such a dream start. The Voice attracted more than 1.3 million viewers in both 18-49 and 25-54 demos, more than the total number of viewers for Seven's most-watched program (the 6pm news at 1.255 million).
The stunning figures for The Voice (may have been inflated due to fans of One Direction tuning in to see how to win tickets to the band's Brisbane concert this week) overshadowed the season premiere of The Block, again based in Melbourne. The Block pulled 1.4 million viewers and won its timeslot. In fact Nine dominated for more than four hours from 5.30pm, starting with Hot Seat (where the million dollar question was revealed), continuing with Nine News, ACA, The Block and The Voice. Not even a dramatic ratings collapse when The Voice finished at 9.45pm could prevent Nine from a huge win (the combination of TBBT and Alcatraz in Melbourne was still enough to win the 9.45pm hour).
Seven and Ten were hit hard for the second night in a row. AGT, like DWTS the night before, posted its lowest season premiere audience, while Revenge lost 300,000 viewers from last week. TBL held up quite well against The Block but the rest of Ten's line-up fell in a heap. Ten from last night also split the ratings for The Project into two, and the figures showed the second half rated better than the first half.

As posted in The Voice Australia thread, The Voice recorded another monster figure last night (even though it dropped slightly from Monday's 2.5 million), helping Nine to another big win. Ratings stalwarts AGT and Packed to the Rafters were no match for The Voice, posting new season lows. It was even worse for AGT which dropped the one million mark for the very first time.
The Voice peaked at 2.827 million viewers and The Block (which also won its timeslot comfortably) peaked at 1.929 million. If regional areas are added, The Voice averaged 3.222 million viewers.
Since PTTR's debut it had only lost its timeslot on two occasions: September 20 last year when it was beaten by the season premiere of US comedy Two and a Half Men (Ashton Kutcher's first episode) and the repeat of Charlie Sheen's last episode which aired beforehand, and last night. And since the drama's debut Seven had only lost two Tuesday nights when PTTR was on: July 14, 2009 (MasterChef was on that night), and last night. It will be interesting to see if PTTR and AGT can recover from last night's heavy loss in the coming weeks.
The only good news for Seven was that its 6pm news and TT won their timeslots.
Nine's two comedies, The Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls, were boosted by The Voice lead-in and won their timeslots in total people and did very well in younger demographics. However the figures for the comedies were inflated because The Voice ran overtime. The Voice came first in the 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, followed by TBBT and The Block.
Ten was torn to shreds last night. Bondi Vet dropped below the 400,000 mark to a new series low, so did a new episode of NCIS.

After the euphoria that was The Voice, Nine came back to earth with a thud as Seven won its first night of the week. After dropping below the one million mark on Tuesday, AGT had a big jump last night, adding 400,000 viewers and beat both The Block and the season premiere of Celebrity Apprentice. CA did not benefit from extra exposure during The Voice, pulling less than one million viewers.
The new season of Offspring had a disappointing start, attracting only 728,000 viewers, even though its lead actor Asher Keddie was named Most Popular Actress at the recent TV Week Logie Awards.
The Titanic mini-series pulled only 720,000 viewers over two hours, reflecting its poor ratings in the UK.
For the week Nine leads Seven by 9% in combined shares. Even though Nine will win the week in major demographics, Seven could still claim the week if it can win Thursday, Friday and Saturday with big margins.

A massive combined share of 10.3% from 7TWO and 7mate led to Seven winning the night, after Nine took out primary channels. Nine still leads the week comfortably.
It was another typical low-rating night with only four programs attracting more than 1 million viewers. Celebrity Apprentice continued its poor run, while Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives also struggled, not helped by late finishes by Better Homes and Gardens in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
Ten had another poor night, low figures by TBL having a domino effect on the rest of the line-up.

Nine will claim its first ratings week victory since September 2010 after close defeats to Seven on Thursday and Friday (Seven had to win those two nights by big margin to win the week). On Friday, Nine lost to Seven by 0.5% in primary channels and 0.4% in combined shares. The thrilling rugby league test from Auckland did very well for Nine in Sydney and Brisbane and was second in all major demographics behind the 7pm episode of The Block.
Ross Lyon's first AFL match as Fremantle coach, against his former team St Kilda, was the most-watched program in Perth.

Seven won the night thanks again to the AFL, with the West Coast-Hawthorn match doing very well in Melbourne and Perth (for the second night in a row, the footy was the most-watched program of the night in Perth).
The encore of the first episode of The Voice rated very well also, outrating every program on Ten last night. It beat Seven and Ten in Sydney and Brisbane but came second to the ABC.

Johnson, remember saying these things about The Voice and how it be a ratings flop?

My first reaction is NO BLOODY WAY!
I am quite interested in The Voice, but because it's on Channel Nine (and I still hate Nine even though it no longer dominates ratings), I won't be watching it even if Delta becomes a judge on it.
Delta should be travelling around Australia and the world to promote her album instead of spending 3 months sitting in Sydney just to be a judge on a show which will be a ratings flop.

Re: Herald Sun report. AGT enjoyed its best ratings ever this year due largely to Jack Vidgen's success. AGT will easily beat The Voice next year if the two shows go head to head, meaning Brian will outdo Delta.

Led by The Voice and the premiere of telemovie Beaconsfield, Nine thrashed the opposition last night, nearly doubling Seven's primary share. The Voice posted a new series high, pulling a whopping 944,000 viewers in Sydney alone (Nine had the Country-City rugby league match as a lead-in). It attracted 1.3 million viewers in both 18-49 and 25-54 demos. Nationally (metro + regional) it peaked at just under 5 million viewers. The encore of last week's episode 2 and 3 did well on GO too, and was the most-watched program on digital channels yesterday.
Beaconsfield, based on the mine collapse at Beaconsfield, Tasmania on April 25, 2006, and the subsequent rescue of trapped miners Todd Russell and Brent Webb, benefited largely from The Voice lead-in, and posted an impressive total.
For the second week in a row, DWTS was no match against the might of The Voice, slipping below the one million mark. The return of Bones did remarkably well against Beaconsfield, attracting one million viewers of its own.
Ten had another bad Sunday. No program attracted more than 800,000 viewers, including the premiere of US drama Touch starring Kiefer Sutherland. New Girl dropped below the 600,000 mark to a new series low (it got as high as 1.2 million back in late January). Ten's decision to show Formula One on the main channel instead of One (and on delay into SA/NT/WA) backfired, amid protests by motorsport fans. It got only 425,000 viewers. One (without F1) and Eleven got less than 2% share each.

For the second night in a row, The Voice pulled more than 2.5 million viewers. It was again clearly the most-watched program of the night, 1.1 million ahead of the second-placed The Block. Nine enjoyed another big win as the result and is on track to win its second week of the 2012 ratings season. However, Person of Interest did not benefit from The Block lead-in, coming second in its timeslot.
AGT and Revenge made a small recovery from last week's shocking lows, attracting 1.2 million viewers each. In its regular timeslot, Pictures of You came first ahead of POI and Q&A, although the audience figures was well down from 1.6 million that saw the premiere back in late March.
Ten had another poor night with TBL the only stand-out.

Nine conjured up another win last night thanks again to The Voice and two resurgent US comedies, The Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls. TBBT benefited from The Voice lead-in and posted its highest audience so far for 2012 (and the current season), while 2 Broke Girls broke though the one million mark and won its timeslot easily.
Usually less people watch TV on the night before a public holiday, but not this case. Most programs were up on last Tuesday, including TBBT (which made the biggest jump), The Voice, AGT, Packed to the Rafters and NCIS. TBL lost 96,000 viewers from last week's episode, however.
It's the first time since May 19 and 26, 2009 that Seven lost consecutive Tuesdays. And it is also the first time in series history that Packed to the Rafters suffered back-to-back losses in its timeslot. Seven's combined share was up slightly on last week (27% versus 26.1%) while Nine's share was slightly down (37.4% to 37.6%). In primary shares, Seven went up 0.5% on last week while Nine dropped 1%.

With The Voice over for another week, Seven flexed its muscles and won the night comfortably. The traditional Anzac Day AFL match between Collingwood v Essendon (more on that below) provided a huge lead-in to Deal or No Deal in Melbourne, which had a flow-on effect on the rest of Seven's schedule. AGT hit the 1.5 million for the first time this season and beat both The Block and Celebrity Apprentice. On a special night, a new episode of Bones won its timeslot. But Titanic mini-series sunk just like the real ship, attracting only 316,000 over two hours, less than half of what it got last week.
The AFL match between the Pies and the Bombers did very well for Seven, especially in Melbourne, but the five-city total was slightly down on last year when it pulled 841,000 on Channel Ten and 213,000 on One. Sydney and Brisbane suffered the biggest drops on free-to-air totals. The extra gain was achieved by Fox Footy's simulcast which added 339,000 viewers. A further 358,000 viewers watched the match in regional areas, making the grand total 1,726,000. The AFL said today the clash set a new record as the most-watched AFL home and away match since OzTam ratings began in 2001, eclipsing the previous two record marks of 1.643 million set in the 2006 Anzac Day match and 1.571 million set in the 2007 Anzac Day match. It also comfortably out rated the highest match for 2012 to date which was the round three Friday night match between Carlton and Collingwood (1.518 million viewers). It was the number one ranked program in Melbourne yesterday afternoon with an audience share of 72 per cent in its timeslot, along with 56.1 per cent audience share in Adelaide and 50.9 per cent in Perth.
The Block performed well for Nine and was No.1 in all major demographics, but the rest of the network's line-up struggled, including Celebrity Apprentice and double repeat episodes of The Mentalist.
Offspring did better than Celebrity Apprentice in the younger demos, but total figures were again disappointing.
The Anzac Day march telecast on the ABC was the highest since 2009 when it pulled 663,000 viewers.

Nine won the night in a close one, but it had more to do with Seven's self-inflicted injury rather than solid ratings for Celebrity Apprentice, The Block and The AFL Footy Show. The main culprit for Seven was the extended version of Better Homes and Gardens, which went for more than 90 minutes and did not finish until 9.15pm in Melbourne and 9.40pm in Adelaide and Perth. The late finish dragged down the ratings for seasoned performers Grey's Anatomy and Desperate Housewives.
Elsewhere, Glee's Whitney Houston tribute episode hit the 600,000 mark but TBL posted disappointing figures.

Nine scored back-to-back wins thanks again to The Voice. The Voice's Sunday episode hit the 2.7 million mark, a new series record.
Nine scored 8 of the week’s top 10 shows, including all of The Voice's three episodes and The Big Bang Theory (which was marked down massively from 1.867 million to 1.62 million).
Nine dominated the key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54. It won Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with Seven winning Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. ABC bettered Ten on Monday, Friday and Saturday.
Nine was victorious in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with Seven first in Adelaide and Perth.
