The third season finale of My Kitchen Rules attracted a massive nationwide audience, pushing Seven's audience share past the 40% mark for the second time this year.
A national audience of 2.198 million watched as Leigh Sexton and "Princess" Jennifer Evans defeated Nic Mazzone and Rocco La Bella in the pulsating All-South Australian final kitchen showdown, but then 2.812 million watched the "winning announcement" (according to Seven's figures). The MKR finale is now the most-watched program of the first quarter of 2012, ahead of the series premiere of US drama Revenge (2.067 million) and Australian Open tennis men's singles final (2.046 million).
In Adelaide, more people watched the MKR finale than last year's MasterChef decider (part 1: 198,000, part 2: 240,000, winner announced: 263,000). However the MKR figures were lower than the 2010 MC finale which averaged 381,000 and winner announcement which pulled 418,000 in the city.
Nationally (metro + regional) the MKR final pulled 3.013 million viewers, while Winner Announced had 3.5 million.
The 2012 series averaged 1,801,404 across the 5 city metro, up from 1,468,198 in 2011.
Pictures of You, hosted by Rockwiz's Brian Nankervis, benefited from the MKR lead-in and delivered an impressive audience of 1.639 million on debut.
Nine and Ten literally put up little resistence against the MKR finale, although Ten somehow finished second for the night ahead of Nine. SBS attracted a 5% share for the main channel thanks largely to the season premiere of Who Do You Think You Are?, featuring comedian Shaun Micallef.

It was a low rating night without My Kitchen Rules, but Seven still won the night comfortably with solid figures for BH&G (in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth), Border Security repeat (in Sydney and Brisbane) and the season finale of Please Marry My Boy.
Nine and Ten got a small boost from the end of MKR, but the ABC was still in doldrums.

Seven won the night in a low rating night and with the AFL splitting the TV market. Seven News was the only program of the night to attract more than one million viewers.
The AFL match between traditional rivals Richmond and Carlton rated well for Seven. The free-to-air total (Seven + 7mate) was 756,000, which were well above those for the corresponding match on March 24 last year March 24 when it was shown on Ten and One (except for Melbourne):

Thursday Night AFL Ten 474,000 *** 348,000 *** 79,000 47,000
Thursday Night AFL One 217,000 9,000 120,000 36,000 24,000 27,000

The match was also the most-watched pay TV program of the night with 245,000 viewers.
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival charity gala was the top show of the night in 18-49 and 16-39 and also won its timeslot in both those demographics...up against AFL on Seven. However the total audience was lower than last year's 751,000 when the special aired on a Monday night.

Seven won the night thanks to the thrilling AFL match between Hawthorn and Collingwood. The AFL rated poorly on 7mate in Sydney and Brisbane, as did the NRL on GEM in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries suffered a big drop against the footy.
Moving Young Talent Time to Fridays did not help Ten at all. Ten only had 11% primary share with YTT and premiere movie Monsters vs Aliens rating poorly.

Seven won its 7th consecutive ratings week in grand style and extended its lead over Nine and Ten going into the Easter non-ratings fortnight. MKR posted huge figures at the start of the week culminating in 2.81 million viewers for the finale. Revenge, Pictures of You and the AFL also contributed.
For the third week in a row Seven won network, primary, multichannels, key demos, every night and every city. It also had all but one of the top 10 programs of the week.
Ten beat Nine on two nights but ABC1 beat Ten on three nights.

Seven won the night despite its lacklustre line-up and no AFL lead-in.
Nine News posted huge figures largely thanks to the NRL lead-in in Sydney and Brisbane (South Sydney beat Wests Tigers with a Greg Ingris field goal in extra time). However the AWW Easter special lost more than half of the audience from the news.
Ten could only manage 15% primary channel share even though it ran first-run content between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.

*triple episodes aired in Adelaide and Perth due to AFL last Thursday and Friday.

Seven won the night quite comfortably. Without My Kitchen Rules as the lead-in, Revenge shed more than 300,000 viewers from last week but still doubled the audience of its nearest commercial opposition. Revenge was also the most-watched program of the night.
McDonald's Gets Grilled did quite well for Seven too. The one-hour special saw six members of the public, who agreed only to appear in a doco about food, visiting McDonalds suppliers and stores to learn about how the products were sourced and assembled. The show was funded by McDonald's Australia in a bid to explode urban myths about the fast food, especially regarding how unhealthy it may be. McDonald's did not have editorial control on the program. However, the program was widely accused of being an advertorial for a fast food restaurant.
Ten's shows improved with no MKR: TBL pulled nearly 1 million viewers and Bondi Rescue up over the 800,000 mark.

Ten had its best performance of 2012 so far, winning in primary channels and coming second in combined shares (24.7% to Seven's 25.1%). Its line-up of TBL, Bondi Vet (one new, one repeat) and NCIS (double repeats) provided solid numbers. TBL topped 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.
Seven won the night by virtue of solid figures from the news, TT and H&A. The post-7.30pm line-up was beaten easily by Nine and Ten.
Who Do You Think You Are (featuring ABC current affairs host Kerry O'Brien) did very well for SBS.

Seven won the first week of Easter non-ratings but ABC and SBS increased their shares with first-run content, while Ten got less than 10% primary share on Friday and Saturday.
Seven may have won key demos but it too was a much closer battle. Just 1.4% split the three commercial networks for 16-39, and Nine was 0.9% or less behind Seven in all three demos.
Nine won Sydney but Seven took out the other 4 metro capitals.
Seven won every night of the week except Friday, which fell to Nine.
Ten beat Nine on Tuesday. ABC tied with Ten on Monday and Thursday, beat them on Friday and thrashed them on Saturday.

Nine won the night overall since its digital channels had higher shares than others. Nine won Melbourne and Brisbane and Seven Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. All three demographics fell to Nine’s channels with Ten second.
It was an interesting story in primary channels with only 0.5% between first and third. The ABC grabbed third with its news and current affairs line-up doing exceptionally well, particularly Q&A which posted its highest audience so far for 2012. Seven came first in primary channels thanks mainly to the 6pm news (boosted by the AFL lead-in in some states) and TT, as its line-up collapsed after 7pm.
TBL hit the one million mark, lifting the rest of Ten's evening line-up.
Even with no Revenge, Alcatraz continued to shed viewers, as the end of its series drew near.

Nine won the night on the back of solid ratings for all three repeats of The Big Bang Theory.
British-Irish boy band One Direction appeared on both Today and Sunrise yesterday, but it was Sunrise which won out. Sunrise attracted nearly 500,000 viewers, its highest audience so far this year.
The Project got a massive boost from the guest appearance of Zac Efron, who was in Melbourne for the local premiere of his new film The Lucky One. It averaged 472,000 from 6pm to 6.30pm but jumped to 742,000 from 6.30pm to 7pm.
The season premiere of Criminal Minds came second in the 8.30pm timeslot behind a repeat of The Mentalist.

Seven came second in primary channels and had to rely on contributions from 7TWO and 7mate to win in combined channels. GA and DH posted their lowest totals this year perhaps due to lack of promotion.
Without The Biggest Loser, Ten came fourth in primary channels, although Glee (returning to Thursday night where the series began) had a better showing than when it was shown on Friday.

The AFL match between traditional rivals Carlton and Collingwood helped Seven to a big win last night as viewers abandoned Ten in droves. Seven won in primary channels by 5.9% and combined shares by 7.1%. In Sydney, BH&G was very competitive against live NRL.
Ten posted a record low Friday share of 8.4%. After going up last week, Young Talent Time fell out of top 20 with less than 410,000 viewers.
