Yesterday's Melbourne Cup race, won by French horse Dunaden by a nose from English entrant Red Cadeaux, was the fourth-most watched program of 2011, behind the Royal Wedding, the winner announcement of The Block and the winner announcement of Australia's Got Talent. The overnight audience was slightly up on last year, when 2.595 million people saw another French horse Americain took out the race.
The Melbourne Cup coverage boosted the figures for DOND and Seven News (especially in Melbourne), but it was the X Factor results show and Australia's Got Amazing Talent which gave Seven a big win for the night and back in the lead for the week. The X Factor, which saw top two favourites Reese Martin and Christina Parie in the bottom two and Christina's subsequent elimination, posted the highest ratings for the results show (and the highest raitngs since the boot camp episode on September 7). AGAT, basically a clip show with highlights from the past seasons of Australia's Got Talent, won the timeslot but was well down from Packed to the Rafters' final episode for 2011.
Ten had a decent night. For the second week in a row, a new episode of Modern Family was outrated by a repeat. NCIS nudged towards the 1.1 million mark and won the timeslot in Brisbane and Perth, while NCIS: LA was steady. On Eleven, American Horror Story had a nice debut, pulling 168,000.
Two and a Half Men stayed below the one million mark, not a good sign for Nine.

The Celebrity Apprentice and Frozen Planet helped Nine winning in primary channels, but 5.2% share for each of 7mate and 7TWO (both are equal first in digital channels) helped Seven to overall victory. For the week, Seven and Nine are equal first in primary channels, while Seven narrowly leads Nine in combined shares. Seven, Nine and the ABC each had two programs in the night's top six.
The second half of The Celebrity Apprentice was the second-most watched program of the night and first in all major demographics. There was a huge drop off to Young Doctors but the documentary still won the timeslot. Prime Suspect embarrassingly came fourth in its timeslot, behind The Hamster Wheel, Criminal Minds repeat and NCIS repeat.
Seven won from 6pm to 7.30pm when it fell apart. The 9.30pm repeat episode of Criminal Minds outrated the 8.30pm episode.
The three-week break due to baseball playoffs hurt the ratings of Glee both in the US and in Australia. Last night it came a distant second in the timeslot, just ahead of The One and 7.30.

Another close tussle between Seven and Nine last night. For the week, Seven and Nine are still tied for first place in primary channels, with Seven still narrowly leading in combined shares.
Apart from BATG, most Thursday night programs posted rises from last week. Sunrise had a big win over Today thanks to the exclusive interview with Kim Kardashian, who recently divorced from basketballer Kris Humphries after only 72 days.

BH&G slipped below its season average of 1.1 million viewers but was still easily the night's most-watched program. However, a low total for movie Last Chance Harvey and good figures (by Friday standards) for double repeats of The Big Bang Theory meant Seven did not win the night by as much as past few weeks.
Ten's woes continued as The Project was the network's most-watched program. Its line-up was in such a poor state that The Big Bang Theory repeats easily accounted for new double episodes of Rules of Engagement.

Doc Martin increased from last week, posting another impressive figure for Saturday night. Combining with 7pm news and repeat of Poirot, they helped ABC winning in primary channels. Seven won the night thanks to big audience shares by 7TWO and 7mate (which got 5.7% share thanks to the James Bond movie double).
Ten had another shocking night: the main channel could only muster 8.3% share, with movies The Seeker and Die Hard 2 each attracting less than 300,000 viewers.

While Ten fell over the line by a slim margin (0.4%), the ABC bettered them on four nights: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. ABC1 also defeated Ten's Primary Channel for the week.
Seven won the week in total people, but Nine won all three demographics 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54. Seven has the top four of the top 10 most-watched programs of last week, including Melbourne Cup and The X Factor results show.
Seven won in all cities except Sydney, which again fell to Nine.
Seven won from Tuesday to Saturday but Nine took out Sunday and Monday.

The finale of Underbelly: Razor, plus increaseing figures for Frozen Planet and 60 Minutes, helped Nine to an easy victory. Premiere movie Body of Lies crashed.
At breakfast, the refreshed Weekend Sunrise beat Weekend Today after the former was unable to go to air on Saturday morning.
Ten's line-up continued to struggle, although Merlin had a small increase from last week. A week's break in the US due to World Series Baseball hurt the ratings of Terra Nova, similar to what happened in the US.

In a move sure to upset many viewers, Channel 10 has cancelled Rush

The rumours have been swirling for weeks but Network Ten have today confirmed the news — local drama Rush will not be returning after season four.
The finale of Rush, starring Callan Mulvey and Catherine McClements, will air next week.
"Rush remains one of the most successful and loved drama series on Ten," says Network Ten Drama and Production executive producer Rick Maier.
"We could not be more proud of all that Rush has achieved to put Ten back on the drama map, including winning the AFI award for Best Television Drama series in 2010."
"You can only have praise for any drama series successfully completing four seasons. While we don't discount a return series it is not on the cards at this stage — but we do intend to finish season four with a bang, literally."
The news that Rush has been cancelled comes amid reports one of the stars of the series, Callan Mulvey, is set to appear in new Network Ten drama Bikie Wars in 2012.
"It's a sad fact in Australia commercial realities come in to play with all series after 65 episodes. You don't get the tax rebate, and as a consequence producing shows of this high calibre become cost prohibitive. That said we are all incredibly proud of the series," Rush producer John Edwards added.

Consistent numbers from The X Factor and Body of Proof helped Seven to a narrow win over Nine last night, although Celebrity Apprentice combined with The Big Bang Theory to beat The X Factor over the hour. The Disneyland episode of JMC pulled disappointing numbers and was the only Ten program to reach the top 20.

The guest appearance by Susan Boyle boosted the ratings of The X Factor, making it the night's most-watched program for the second week in a row. Although Australia's Got Amazing Talent slipped last week, Seven still won the night by a huge margin.
Apart from The X Factor, most programs lost audiences from last week, including Modern Family, Two and a Half Men, NCIS and NCIS: LA. Low figures for Survivor and the final episode of The Joy of Sets
Both Sunrise and Today posted big audiences yesterday morning as people tuned in on the news of Dr Conrad Murray convicted of involuntary manslaughter of singer Michael Jackson.

A special 90-minute episode of Celebrity Apprentice (combination of challenge and elimination episodes) helped Nine to win in primary channels, but Seven won in combined shares and continued to lead for the week. Frozen Planet suffered a big drop from Sunday but still managed to come second in its timeslot.
The trio of Spicks and Specks, Gruen Planet and The Hamster Wheel continued to do well for the ABC.
Ten's main channel continued to suffer in the ratings. Glee fell from last week, coming fourth in its timeslot behind Celebrity Apprentice, The One and 7.30. But Hawaii Five-O seemed to have stabilised.

Ten has since told The Spy Report that it has not ruled out returning Rush in the future.

although at the end of tonight's episode, they didn't promote next weeks ep as the 'final ever rush'

SHAME ON YOU CHANNEL 10!

Good ratings for Beauty and the Geek, TAR, and the Susan Boyle special helped Seven to another Thursday win.
The Conrad Murray special posted a shocking total at 7pm, dragging down the ratings for the rest of Nine's line-up. Unforgettable was beaten by The Slap (steady from last week), the penultimate episode of Rush (small increase from last week) and TAR.

Double repeat episodes of The Big Bang Theory and the premiere of disaster movie 2012 gave GO! a massive audience share of 8.7%, helping Nine to overall victory last night. On the main channel, Frozen Planet dropped from last week, and CSI was beaten by both Bones repeat and Terra Nova, after moving from Wednesday.
Seven won in primary channels thanks to good figures by the news, SN, and victories by repeats of Bones and Castle. The third last episode of Wild Boys came third in the timeslot.
The Australian Open golf gave a healthy boost to Ten News at Five. Merlin and JMC both went up week-on-week.

Seven won the night on the back of solid ratings for The X Factor performance show (the night's #1 show), the 6pm news and TT, as Junior MasterChef (and Ten in general) took another battering in ratings.
The Celebrity Apprentice and TBBT were the top two performers for Nine.
Targeting Bin Laden and Australian Story (repeat of an episode featuring the late Australian director Sarah Watt) did well for the ABC.

The X Factor was the night's top show, which saw the last remaining group Three Wishez bowing out, leaving three guys competing for this year's title. Australia's Got Amazing Talent continued to fall, dragging down Parenthood with it. Despite that, Seven still won the night.
Celebrity Apprentice was Nine's best performing program after 7pm. Nine's news and current affairs programs had a good day with Today beating Sunrise nationally, and Nine News and ACA winning in Sydney and Melbourne.
Ten's most-watched program was a new episode of NCIS: LA in a one-off timeslot of 8.30pm.
