The season premiere of Doc Martin pulled 1.34 million viewers for the ABC, a massive figure by Saturday standards. It helped the ABC winning in primary channel and an excellent 24% share in combined shares.
Seven held on to beat Nine to win the night. The thrilling Rugby World Cup semi-final between Wales and France did very well for Nine, but low figures for Spiderman 3 (beaten by X-Men on Ten) cost the network dearly.
Ten recovered somewhat from Friday's embarrassingly low with respectable figures for Home Alone and X-Men.

In preliminary figures, the first two episodes of the new season The Big Bang Theory were the two most-watched shows of the week with 1.505 million for the first episode and 1.6 million for the second episode. However, their totals were massively marked down in final figures, meaning Packed to the Rafters maintaining the top spot.
Seven won key demos 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54, all 5 cities and all 7 nights.
Ten bettered Nine on Wednesday but ABC beat Ten on Saturday. ABC1 was even the top Primary Channel on Saturday.

The Rugby World Cup semi-final attracted a big audience for both free-to-air (1.788 million) and pay TV (719,000, a new audience record). Nine's coverage won in all cities and was the No.1 program in Sydney and Brisbane and (surprisingly) Melbourne, as well as in all major demographics. The rugby league test, Darren Lockyer's last match on Australian soil, also did well in Sydney and Brisbane.
Seven and Ten were hit hard by the rugby union, with most programs posting falls from last week, especially Terra Nova and Ringer. The notable exception was Wild Boys, which benefited from a massive lead-in from the end of Seven's annual Telethon in Perth (The 26-hour fundraiser actually beat the rugby league test in the afternoon but lost to RWC later). The drama actually posted a small increase week-on-week based on overnight figures. The first fasttracked episode of Merlin struggled against the rugby and Sunday Night.

Another coding blunder by Nine saw two new episodes of The Big Bang Theory coded as episode 1 of the comedy, with The Mentalist coded as episode 2. However it did not disguise the fact that both TBBT and The Mentalist were steady from last week's figures.
The X Factor performance show went up week-on-week, boosting the ratings for Body of Proof (though there was a 10 minute overrun). Seven won the night quite comfortably in primary channels, digital channels and combined shares.
JMC was Ten's most-watched program of the night but fell from last Monday's figures. Ten's primary channel could only manage 11.9% share from 6pm to midnight.

The X Factor and PTTR helped Seven to another big win last night, with the former slipping from last week but the latter returning to the 1.6 million mark.
The Big Bang Theory repeats continued to be popular at Nine, trouncing Modern Family repeats on Ten. Two and a Half Men suffered a big drop, affecting the figures for the return of Mike & Molly.
The low figures for Modern Family dragged down the ratings for NCIS, now precariously over the one million mark. However NCIS: LA was steady.

Seven won the night (again) while Spicks & Specks, Gruen Planet and the Hamster Wheel continued to lead the way for the ABC. These three programs were in the top 4 in 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.
Ten fared even worse without The Renovators. A repeat episode of Modern Family was the network's most-watched program of the night. Moving to 8.30pm did not help Hawaii Five-O one single bit.

Beauty and the Geek's makeover episode proved to be a big drawcard, just like last year. It attracted an impressive audience for the timeslot, and combined with the season finale of Four Weddings to deliver a comfortable win to Seven.
The Slap took a hit against BATG but it still beat Unforgettable and Rush in the 8.30pm hour.
Recruits: Paramedics enjoyed a nice increase week-on-week but otherwise it was another poor night for Ten.

BH&G was the night's most-watched program yet again. The RWC third-place playoff between the Wallabies and Wales did quite well for Nine, although understandably it was well down from last week's semi-final against the All Blacks.

Seven might have won the week but Nine had a better showing. Nine managed five of the top ten shows last week, one better than Seven.
Seven just won 16-39 and 18-49 demographics with a tie between Nine and Seven in 25-54.
Seven took victory every night except Sunday which was won by Nine. The ABC beat both Nine and Ten on Saturday. ABC1 was also the top primary channel for Saturday.
Seven won all cities except Sydney, which fell to Nine.

Doc Martin rose from last week's premiere and was again the night's most-watched program by a long shot. Nine's coverage of Cox Plate did very well in Melbourne and helped Nine News beating Seven News in the city by more than 100,000 viewers.

The final of the Rugby World Cup, in which New Zealand beat France 8-7 in front of a sellout crowd of more than 60,000 in Auckland's Eden Park, did well for Nine, but the figures were much lower than last week when the All Blacks beat the Wallabies in the semi final. 648,000 watched the match on Fox Sports 3, the second highest audience in Australian pay TV history (also below the All Blacks-Wallabies semi final). In NZ, 1.98 million people (nearly half of the country's population) watched the match across four channels: TV ONE, Sky Sport 1, TV3 and Maori TV, with TV ONE and Sky Sport 1 together grabbing half of the audience share.
Otherwise, it was a low-rating night for all the networks, with Wild Boys and Terra Nova slipping from last week and Merlin and Ringer going up slightly.
Only 0.3% separated the five digital channels and SBS ONE.

The Celebrity Apprentice Australia enjoyed a nice premiere, coming second in its timeslot to Home and Away before going up in the second half, just losing to The X Factor. With solid performances from TBBT and The Mentalist, Nine pushed Seven all the way, losing in primary channels by just 0.3%. Nine had six of the top 10 programs of the night and Seven had the rest.
JMC was hit hard by The X Factor and Celebrity Apprentice, posting a new series low. It came fourth in the timeslot even behind 7.30 on the ABC.

The X Factor results show and the last new episode of Packed to the Rafters for 2011 helped Seven to another typical big win last night.
NCIS, Two and a Half Men, Mike and Molly, United States of Tara and Joy of Sets go up from last week. NCIS: LA continued to slip but still managed to win its timeslot. The new episode of Modern Family (the season 3 opener) was outrated by a repeat.

Good figures from Celebrity Apprentice plus a solid debut by new documentary Young Doctors helped Nine winning in primary channels, but Seven won in combined channels.
S&S, Gruen Planet and The Hamster Wheel did well for the ABC, while the 25th anniversary of At the Movies (and its SBS predecessor The Movie Show) also rated well.

The second makeover episode of BATG did very well for Seven and was the most-watched program of the night. It dragged down the figures for Qi and The Slap on the ABC.
Ten had another forgettable night with only one program pulling 600,000 viewers or more (Keeping Up with the Joneses).

Note last night's figures were affected by the extended coverage of Qantas grounding. ABC News 24 got a nice audience share for its coverage of the issue.
Doc Martin slipped a little from last week but still did very well and was way ahead of its opposition.

Although Seven won the week again, it was very close between Seven and Nine in terms of demographics. Nine won 16-39 by 0.1%, Seven won 18-49 by 0.1% and both tied on 25-54.
Seven won each night from Monday to Saturday, with Nine winning Sunday. ABC bettered Ten on three nights: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and Nine on Saturday. ABC1 was also the top Primary Channel on Saturday.
Seven took the week in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth with Nine again victorious in Sydney.

A line-up of first-run programs from 6.30pm to 10.30pm helped Nine winning the night in primary channels and total people. 60 Minutes was the night's most-watched program, while BBC documentary Frozen Planet also had a nice premiere (the ABC must still be gutted that it was outbid by Nine for this program).
Seven News and SN were the leading programs for Seven while Wild Boys slipped below the 900,000 mark.
Ten again had a poor night, with JMC being the network's #1 ranked program of the night. Mobbed (in place of Terra Nova for this week only) flopped and Ringer (312,000) continued to drop. It was saved by One whose coverage of the first ever Formula One race from India helped the channel winning in digitals.

BH&G and the repeat of Mamma Mia! helped Seven to a huge win on Friday as 6.30 with George Negus bowed out on a low after 10 months on air. The International Rules game in Melbourne also flopped.

For the first time this year, Nine won on the night of The X Factor performance show, although it could also be due to lower figures in Melbourne (the night before Melbourne Cup day today). The second half of The Celebrity Apprentice and the new episode of The Big Bang Theory (which did not begin until 8.15pm) combined to beat The X Factor, while The Mentalist defeated Body of Proof.
An earlier start for The Project did not help the ratings for the program, coming a distant third for the 6.30pm hour behind TT and ACA. Ten had a shocking night with no program attracting 600,000 viewers, with JMC posting a new series low.
