She’ll be performing at Mardi Gras on Saturday and Delta Goodrem recently answered some questions about the big night.
She also spills on the upcoming series of The Voice and what to expect in 2013.
DNA: Most important question first: what are you going to wear for Mardi Gras?
Delta: This is my first ever Mardi Gras, I am so over the moon to have been asked and in true MG style I want to keep the creative a secret! A lot of my supporters know that I love to sparkle and given it’s Mardi Gras, it would almost be rude not to have a fabulous time and sparkle…Stay tuned. What are you going to play – or is that a surprise?
This is definitely a surprise. I really want everyone to be free and open to just have a fantastic time – this is about love, acceptance and celebrating people and of course having a good old fashioned boogie!Presumably you’re on at midnight or possible later. How will you stay awake?
I am going to try to curb my energy levels for the day so I build to the performance time – I think the adrenalin will keep me going no matter what time! There is so much love and energy in the air and I am sure that will keep me going. Failing that…a Soy Latte or two chai lattes. Lol!Are you mates with Heather Small, who is also performing?
I haven’t met Heather but she is an amazing vocalist and performer so I look forward to meeting her backstage. She’s an inspiring woman who has had an amazing career. I can’t wait to have a cuppa with her out the back. I actually went to the opening of the Olympics and saw Heather perform, so it will be great to see her again. What about Jake Shears from Scissor Sisters (who’ll be DJ-ing as Crystal Pepsi)?
I have been a Scissors Sisters fan for quite some time now, and have yet to see them live, so it’s perfect really! Jake is a very talented musician. Me and my team will be sure to have a dance when he comes on.Have you partied at Mardi Gras before?
No but I have so many great friends who attend each year – I am beyond excited to be there with them. The amount of friends of mine who are so excited and have been asking for tickets has been crazy! How do you prepare backstage before a big gig? Is it honey and whisky, a signature cocktail or a secret Delta special?
I wish I could tell you it’s whiskey but I don’t drink before singing but I will have friends with me that will definitely be enjoying champagnes, I am sure. A cheeky dirty martini after to celebrate will be on hand once I am done though! When you think of gay anthems, what first springs to mind?
On the Radio – Donna Summer
Dancing Queen – Abba
I’m Coming Out – Dianna Ross
Queen of the Night – WhitneyWhat advice do you have for Ricky Martin as he joins The Voice?
Ricky doesn’t need advice from me, he’s an incredible artist and person. I am so proud to be working with him on The Voice and to have this opportunity to get to know him. We both share a bond of having hits very young in our careers… I already feel Ricky is a great friend. Love him! Will you be bringing him to Mardi Gras?
I wish !!! No this Mardi Gras isn’t on the cards for Ricky. What can we expect from Delta in 2013?
THE VOICE which is even better than last year – the talent is exceptional and Seal, Joel and Ricky are my blessing for this year – I love working and sharing music with these men. They are each so special and I love them. For me, there’s another new single and further shows in the pipeline whilst being in many parts of the world with new music!
